Institute for the Family is dedicated to serve families through its clinical
family therapy services, excellent training programs for mental health, and new
treatment models and training techniques. The institute conducts various
workshops and courses regularly. All workshops are mostly held at the Ackerman
Institute.
The institute will be conducting a workshop ‘The Joy of Conflict’ for couples
therapists on Friday, June 6, 2008.The workshop will help these therapists
to help their clients re-look into the conflicts they are facing through a well
thought out paradigm and embrace and solve those conflicts in a better way.
This experiential workshop will focus on transforming conflicting couple
interactions into empathic, generative problem solving by discussing case
studies and role playing.
This workshop is based on years of research on couple conflicts from an
evolutionary understanding of emotions. The highlights of the workshop will be:
- Helping therapists
learn and experience how to move from the perspective of the individual to
the more complex perspective of the unit.
- Discussing basic
human emotions (those oriented towards individual survival) and managing
these feelings in order to achieve mutual understanding as a couple.
- Learning how to
help clients re-conceptualize seemingly opposite points of view into a
productive complementary relationship.
The
workshop will be conducted by Charles N. Jamison, Jr, PhD, who is a
psychologist currently working at the advertising agency Footsteps as their
Brand Strategy Director. He has been in advertising/market research for over
twenty five years. Dr. Jamison has won awards for his contributions to
